Arrive in Strasbourg (Kehl) at 08.30am for a full day to enjoy this wonderful city and the famous Christmas markets. In 1570 the first Strasbourg Christmas market appeared around it's prestigious Cathedral. It’s influence across Europe has since grown unceasingly. Standing in the centre of Strasbourg, the 30-metre high Great Christmas Tree is the most important, indispensable symbol of Strasbourg, the Capital of Christmas.
Its majestic presence livens up the centre of Strasbourg with its magnificent decorations. Every week, different lighting effects will be revealed to create a spectacular fairy-tale atmosphere that will make both children's and adults' eyes sparkle. Children and adults come and skate on the 300 m² ice rink set up in place Dauphine, at the entrance to the Rivetoile centre. With an area especially reserved for children and a programme of entertainment on the ice, you can enjoy all the atmosphere of a traditional Christmas.
The Christmas lights are organised by the Vitrines de Strasbourg Association in partnership with the City of Strasbourg. A path of lights and dazzling rosettes guides you towards the Christmas Markets and the shop-line streets flooded by lights. In Strasbourg, the streets, houses, churches, windows, and balconies shine with a thousand lights and colours, each more original than the next.

Your river cruise takes you on the meandering river to arrive in Mainz at 12 mid-day.
Under the light canopy on the market square, the wonderful Mainz Christmas Market shines out in front of the impressive backdrop of the 1,000-year-old St. Martin’s cathedral (Martinsdom) and the picturesque Renaissance facades of the historic market houses. Handmade specialities, the useful and the curious, typical "Meenzer" specialities – there is something for everyone here. Enter between the glittering beams of light and marvel at the glowing, rotating Christmas pyramids with figures from Mainz. A few metres further on, in front of the cathedral, the life-size Nativity figures present a marvellous impression, and, last but not least, the nine metre high, rotating musical clock, with 18 hand-carved angel figures.
Take some time in between to listen to the atmospheric concerts in front of and inside the cathedral, enjoy the colourful stage programme and print out your own Christmas cards in the print shop of the Gutenberg Museum, behind the cathedral. Directly in front of this, you can immerse yourself in the campfire romance in the cosy Weinfasshütten (wine barrel cabins) of the cosy Christmas village. In this way, you can enjoy Christmas in Mainz with all your senses. Depart Mainz at 9.00pm for your overnight journey back to Cologne.
